When you travel for a living, as some of us are lucky enough to do, a tiny downside is that most hotel rooms begin to look the same: Same starched white sheets. Same tastefully hued walls adorned with artwork that subtly nods to the city. Same tiny soaps and stacks of fluffy white towels (and thank goodness for those!).

Maybe you’ll get a closet; maybe not. Maybe you’ll be able to log in to your Netflix account on the big screen TV. Maybe your view will be a little different this time.

All that sameness makes a really special hotel, well—exciting. And lucky for Texas, there have been so many special new spaces opening to travelers in the past few years, from relaxed boutique getaways to retro roadside hotels to glitzy four-star hotels, each appointed with unique touches, historical details, and occasionally a little bit of funkiness that celebrates the Texas identity.

We wanted to introduce y’all to some of the newer Texas hotels and resorts that have opened in recent years (plus a few that are on the horizon to keep your eye on), highlighting some of the amenities at each one.
