There's no need to pick just one pattern to enjoy in your home when you can experiment with many different eye-catching prints from room to room. Here, Southern designers share seven of their favorite patterns as of late, ranging from moody abstracts to peppy florals.

Block Prints

Whitney Durham, the founder of Whitney Durham Interiors in Atlanta, Georgia, has noticed block prints—traditionally created by hand using a stamping technique—popping up all over lately. "They are fresh and graphic with an old-world global feel all at the same time," she says. In particular, she's seen block prints popping up on upholstery, window treatments, tablecloths, napkins, and more. In a living room, she incorporated floral Schumacher drapery inspired by a French block print.

Abstracts And Mosaics

If you're craving a mod look, join Mary Lambrakos in embracing abstract patterns. "Imagine hexagons weaving through spaces in unconventional arrangements, or broken tiles assembled into cohesive but imperfect mosaics," says the founder of Lambrakos Studio in Houston, Texas. "This approach reflects a broader trend where patterns are seen as a collage of elements brought together without the constraint of perfect alignment. These designs evoke a monolithic, yet organically evolving aesthetic, where imperfection itself becomes a defining characteristic.”

Stephanie Gamble, the founder of Stephanie Gamble Interiors in Towson, Maryland, is all about patterned tiles and mosaics. "I'm especially loving soft, marble geometrics which can be used on a backsplash, for flooring or in showers," she says.

Checks

Checks, specifically this charcoal gray and ivory Thibaut pattern, are something that Laura Hodges always appreciates. "It has a modern feel while blending well with more a traditionally styled rooms as well," says the Catonsville, Maryland-based founder of Laura Hodges Studio, who used designed this cozy bedroom space for last year's Southern Living Idea House.

Herringbone

Divya Vaswani, the founder of Divya Vaswani Interiors in Atlanta, Georgia, appreciates herringbone and its zig-zag shape. "The pattern can help make a smaller room look larger," she says. "From wallpaper, to flooring, and even tile, herringbone is always a pick for me."

Dots

Bring on the cheerful dots, says Paige Williams. “We love incorporating dots into our designs because they’re bold, playful, and add a pop of color to any project," comments the founder of Paige Williams Interior Design in Franklin, Tennessee. Hesitant to go all in? You can ease into using this pattern oin your home, the designer says. "We know designing with bolder patterns can seem like a big commitment, so we recommend using those prints in things like drapery and throw pillows so they can be swapped when design needs and preferences change."

Nature-Inspired Prints

Many designers enjoy drawing inspiration from nature in the work, and Margie Kaercher is one of them. "Nature is never going out of style, so neither are patterns that represent nature’s serene beauty," says the founder of Tampa, Florida's Hearth and Honey Homes. "Floral and botanical patterns have been loved for centuries, embodying a timeless charm and classic style. Respect your grandmother and her floral curtains—and mine!"

Tara Miller, the founder of The Heartland Interior Design, is also a fan of patterns featuring fruits, florals, and foliage. "We all want our homes to be a place of respite from the world and sometimes a dainty floral wallpaper can help lighten the mood," she says.

Plaids, Stripes, And Wools

Kara Childress enjoys incorporating what she refers to as "Ralph Lauren classics" into her designs. "Their plaids, wools, stripes, tweeds, and mountain-inspired patterns are my go-to’s, particularly for our ranch and mountain projects," says the founder of Kara Childress Interior Atelier in Houston. "I love channeling timeless patterns, whether it’s English plaids, wool tartans, or tribal motifs, to set the color palette for a home."
